Introducing the Le Mans of cable raceways.  This system has several -completely- customizable components to let you decide how exactly to organize your cables.  When snapped together, the pieces hinge ±90 degrees, allowing for connection around corners of walls, desks, or whatever you are organizing.  The cover piece snaps over the joints once in place to provide a clean fully enclosed finish.

This OnShape Document will allow you to edit (via the variable studio):

  • The length of each piece* (SegmentLength - Default 100mm)

  • The width of each piece (SegmentWidth - Default 40mm)

  • The thickness of the bottom plate (SegmentDepth - Default 3mm)

  • The height of each piece* (ClipHeight - Default 20mm)

  • The thickness of the side walls (ClipWidth - Default 2mm)

  • The width of the gap in the straight piece to add/remove cables (GapLength - Default 15mm)

  • The size of the screw holes (ScrewHoleDiameter - Default 4mm)

  • The tolerance for the interlocking areas (Tolerance - Default 0.1mm)

  • The angle for the Angle Connector , T Joint, and Z-Angle Connector piece (Angle - Default 90 degrees)

  • The top angle (male) for the Cross Joint (CrossTopMAngle - Default 90 degrees)

  • The bottom angle (female) for the Cross Joint (CrossBottomFAngle - Default 90 degrees)

  • The desktop thickness for the U connector (UConnectorWidth - Default 30mm)

*Some lengths/widths are based on multiple variables.

  • The SegmentLength is the length of the body - it does not include the connectors at the ends (which are 1/2 x (ClipHeight+SegmentDepth) - Default 123mm

  • The actual height is SegmentDepth+ClipHeight - Default 43mm

For those not proficient in OnShape, the downloads include the raceway system with the above default dimensions, and a few common variations (30, 45, and 60 degrees).

For those with a basic understanding of OnShape - open the document and adjust the variables as described above to your liking.

For those OnShape experts - Enjoy, and I am sorry in advance for anything I screwed up.  I made all the joints/connectors a derivation of the straight piece, so if you change parts of that, it should follow, but I bet I messed a few things up, but I did what I could and wouldn't mind pointers if you find a better way to do some of the things.  I know I heavily over-complicated a few equations, and I intend to fix some of those in future versions.

A few notes on the systems specifics:

  • I tested what I thought were 'reasonable' values for each variable.  If you find something that doesn't work properly - please let me know so I can update the design.

  • The length of each piece is actually longer than the "SegmentLength" dimension.  That dimension is the length of the covered section.  There is a connector on either end that extends out past the "SegmentLength" value.

  • The connector length (on either end) is equal to the ClipHeight+SegmentDepth, so by default 23mm of overlap on either end, thus the default "Straight" piece is 146mm long for printing.

  • The "Angle" has been tested from -135 degrees to +135 degrees, so you should be able to bend the track to your desired angle for mounting.

  • The "Angle" also affects the T-Joint (male and female) as well.  The 'middle' portion of the T-Joint is always halfway between the starting and ending angle (e.g. a 90 degree angle will produce a T that is at 45 degrees).

  • The Joint Covers are not needed unless you want to cover the joints between pieces, to create a much more 'finished' look - the same goes for the End Cap pieces.

  • The bar that runs down the middle of the track is not removable currently - it is there for stability and to provide support for the cover of each piece to stay snapped into place.

I’m so happy to share this model with the community for free. It was a true labor of love, and I spent a lot of time ensuring it was not only polished but easily customizable for your specific projects. While never expected, if you'd like to support my work with a donation, it truly means the world to me. Thank you for being part of this community and for your support!
