Nydar 47 Sight case

The Nydar 47 is a very early reflex optic first marketed in the 1940s. It has become somewhat popular with collectors for its intriguing origin story as one of the first reflex gun sights ever sold for small arms.

You can learn some more about it from Forgotten Weapons (LINK).

I don't expect that very many people will ever need this model. As an interested collector, I purchased my sight cheap on eBay. It did not come with any kind of protective case or sleeve or any of the original packaging. I wanted to ensure that it could be kept protected and clean, so I designed this case that prints in two halves and stores the optic inside.

In this upload, I've also included a very rough CAD model of the Nydar that I used for creating this case. No promises are made about its accuracy if you intend to use it for your own, but it is there and might help. I don't own a 3D scanner, so I did my best to closely approximate the sight. It was accurate enough that I was able to create this box, so that's close enough for me.

I intentionally did not design the case to snap fit or have any included method of keeping it closed. I prefer to use rubber bands or a Velcro strap for this purpose.

Also, I'm not trying to pat myself on the back too much, but this would be a good reference design if you're looking to learn more about designing cases that split into two parts this way. The design includes a shadow line, tolerance chamfering, a locating ring, and weather seal. I use these methods to design many different enclosures and have found that they work quite well.
