A Heavy Petal symphony for your balcony or garden or for indoor decoration

2 big big size versions + a MINI version (images follow)

Features

  • Fully customizable layout. Mix & Match different components  to create your own unique wind chimes.

  • Includes a variety of flower-inspired bells for quick printing in Vase Mode (and because they sound really nice!!!)

  • Plugs to secure the strands on the main body in two ornamental designs.

  • Two versions for the Hanging ring holding 8 or 9 strands + A mini version holding 5 strands

  • Beads to make your chimes more playful and hide or secure the knots.

  • A variety of charms to serve as 'weights' stabilizing the strands and improve movement with the wind.

Assembly

Assembly is simple and flexible:

  • Use string and a needle to thread all components (Chose amount and motives freely)

  • Arrange beads and bells in any order you like

  • before closing each strand, dont forget to add a plug.

  • Attach ready strands to the ring using the plugs

  • Use the 3 or 4 holes of the ring (depending on the model you ve chosen), to tie a thicker rope or paracord to hang it

  • I ve used the Knotty to fasten the paracord for hanging the assembled chimes but its totally optional

TIP: Fold the string in half, start from the top going down then tie a charm  and work your way up again, attach the plug and tie. (Use the 2-hole beads inbetween so you can go through them twice, this trick will save you knots)
You are free to experiment—there is no single correct configuration

Printing Instructions

I ve used 0,4 nozzle and PLA for the sample. (although I ll be printing it in PETG soon, so I can hang it in the garden)

  • Vase Mode for the bells. The 3mf file includes 2 holes at the bottom for tying it easily and securing it on a specific height on the string without the need of a knot. I printed them using 0,30mm layer draft. All of them need brim. Every piece takes 10-15 min max to print. In case you scale up, dont go over 50mm height because they will become unstable even with a brim.

  • For the charms (hearts etc) I used 90% infill but thats up to you. Same for the beads and the plugs.

  • None of the parts need supports.

  • Take a minute to calculate what you need to print or use the numbers given in the paragraph Components below, to recreate the sample image.

Components (mandatory and optional)

  • Hanging Ring in 3 versions. A. 9 holes for strandss+3 for paracord or other cord to hang it. B. 12 holes in total 8 for strands + 4 for paracord.

    C. Mini version for 6 and 4 strands. (+3 for hanging the wind chimes)

  • Bells    in Many different shapes to choose from. Most of the bells are stackable

  • Beads in 3 versions  A with a single hole, B with 2 holes and C a double bead with a single hole

  • Plugs   in 2 versions. A Leaf shape and B Flower shape

  • Weights

   optional components

  • Multi-cord anchor Knotty (link above) for hanging the ring

what I ve used for a 9-strand wind chimes

93 beads

27 bells

9 charms

ca. 15m of string

What you will need

(apart from a 3d printer, filament and creative mood)

  • String (fishing line or any synthetic string or plastic coated wire, recommended max 0,8-1mm )

  • Needle

  • Scissors

Mini Version

for the mini size of the wind chime (smaller diameter of the ring - 5 strands)

you can use the same file of beads and bells, as the for the big one. Plugs are also the same.

I case you wish to down scale the bells, do it but without scaling the holes (negative volume cylinders) at the bottom. Look at the preview to make sure they are place correctly and pierce through the bottom correctly.

Notes

This design is based on my own -hanging ring for Ikea Förenling 9cm plant pot- design, where more holes are added, pattern has been changed, height changed and plugs are made functional. The ring is designed in fusion while some components are designed in blender.

Thank you for reading

Have fun assembling your own wind chimes and experimenting with different layouts, colors, and sounds!

Posting your makes or remixes would make me very happy!
