Inspired by the Blue Man Group Tubulum instrument, this windchime uses varying lengths of PVC pipe to produce musical notes.
It's simple, grab some fishing line, your 3D printer, 6-screws, epoxy, and some spare time. All parts are meant to be friction fit (except for the flappers).
Print order:
2x Frame
6x Collars
6x Flaps
6x Pads (print with TPU)
1x Windcatcher
While parts are printing, run to hardware store and buy two 1-inch by 72-inch white PVC pipes. (~$5USD/Each)
Tube Lengths:
C4 (261 Hz): ~24-25 inches
D4 (293 Hz): ~22 inches
E4 (329 Hz): ~20 inches
F4 (349 Hz): ~19 inches
G4 (392 Hz): ~17 inches
A4 (440 Hz): ~15 inches
Assembly:
Insert cut tubes into frame top.
Top of pipes should be ~30mm above the frame
NOTE: All tubes shoule be level on the top
Insert tubes into bottom frame.
Bottom of shortest tube should be ~30mm below the frame
Glue one pad to the indented area of each flapper.
Install a collar on top of each tube
Install a flapper on top of each collar and secure with a screw
NOTE: Make sure flapper can move freely.
Tie one strand of fishing line to each flapper and thread each line down the small holes in the top and bottom frames.
Tie all fishing lines together and secure to the windcatcher.
Secure an eye hook into the top frame and hang in windy area.
Please note: This is only theory right now. My only working printer is busy and I have not had a chance to test any of this.
