This project is a modified version of the original Olukelo joystick gimbal featuring a dedicated twist (Z-axis) mechanism and MT6826S magnetic encoders.

The electronics and firmware ecosystem for this project is being developed in parallel as part of the OpenHotas project, which can be found here:
https://github.com/fernandosca/OpenHotas

To complete the assembly, three spacers included in this project must be printed. The original screws and bearings from the Olukelo design are still used, with the addition of two extra bearings required for the twist mechanism. An additional nine M3x6 mm screws are also required beyond those used in the original project.

Completed Features

  • Twist (Z-axis) mechanism.

  • MT6826S magnetic encoder integration.

  • Encoder mounting hardware and related structural modifications.

Planned Features

  • Custom PCB design.

  • RP2350-based controller board.

  • MCP23S17 I/O expanders for button inputs.

  • Additional integration and testing of the complete HOTAS electronics system.

Important

Only the modified and newly created parts are included in this project. Any original Olukelo components that have not been modified must be obtained from the original author's project page.

This is an ongoing project and remains under active development. Some parts may contain minor dimensional inaccuracies or require small adjustments depending on printer calibration and hardware tolerances. Feedback, testing results, and suggestions are welcome and will help improve future revisions.
