Models for printing new, replacement keys for the Blickensderfer typewriter. Models of the resin-key type that was used on these, with legends for English (US) in both Scientific and Universal layouts.
A Blickensderfer typewriter may miss a few of these keys, they can break and get lost over time.
To print only a single or few keys as needed to complete a keyboard, right-click on the model in your slicer and split in objects. Then delete those keys that are not needed.
One blank-key model added to enable printing a 'fill-in' key where a printed label (e.g. waterslide decal) can be applied for specific layouts.
The typeface of the legends is a close match for the original in style, but not an exact reproduction. For a few keys, an alternative model is provided that is drawn to be a closer match for the original legend.
For best results, print the keys with a small layer-height, e.g. 0.08 mm. Best quality will be with printing by object, rather than by layer. A brim may be helpful, depending on printer and build-plate.
The printed key should be a simple press-fit on the keystem, the slot may need to be scraped clean with a sharp tool. Depending on printer and filament, shrinkages may differ slightly - if needed, scaling the model in xy by a percentage should compensate for specific filament+printer sizing.
To finish the keys, apply a few layers of paint with sanding down in-between. Especially the sanding-down and smoothing of the dimpled top with fine (waterproof) sandpaper is important for copying the originals. To fill the lettering, use e.g. latex 'wall paint', after drying any excess can still be wiped off with a moist cloth held taut. Alternatively polymer clay or wax can be used to fill in the lettering.
