whilst working in my garage reinforcing the roof i was struggling to get an accurate measurement for a crosspiece and decided to make a little magnetic bracket i can screw to the side of a timber and stick the end of my tape to to allow me to measure the distance easier. I made it so there is a steep angle on the top point to allow for better alignment with the mark for measuring and 2 small teeth to bite into the timber allowing it to be fixed with 1 screw and not move easily. I made 2 variants for the size of magnets used 6mm and 8mm diameter and they should just press fit but a little superglue is advised. Be sure to have the magnets in the same orientation to avoid weakening the magnetism and if your tape measure has built in magnets have them orientated to match its polarity for added grip strength.

materials:

i used regular PLA and orientated the part so the bottom 45 degree edge was flat to the build plate just for added build strength,

requires 2x neodymian magnets (6x3mm or 8x3mm)
