I have spent a lot of time programming the geometry of the gears to achieve the correct tooth profile. It is not just involute gears. The geometry is designed in such a way that it resembles how gear hobbing works. This makes it possible to obtain the correct shape of the tooth root, including fillets and undercut, even for gears with a small number of teeth - the sun has 11 teeth and no profile shift.

The sun has 11 teeth and and the planets have 16. The ring must have 11 + 2*16 = 43. None of these numbers are dividable by three, which makes eyeballing equal spacing of the planets hard. But it is possible because 11 + 43 = 54 is dividable by three.

The sun is split in two - otherwise it would be impossible to assemble the gears. This also means that it doesn't fall apart once done.
