It takes inspiration from others out there but is different in the following ways:

  • The pi zero can be swapped without screws by pulling it off the display 40pin header

  • Has side mounting screws for future mods/expansions e.g. handles, USB devices, mounts etc...

  • Relatively cheap to build and fun mini project

  • Pi zero ports are fully accessible

  • Uses a resistive touch screen for stylus use (a nod to vintage pocketpcs)

Bill of material:

  • Raspberry Pi Zero 2W

  • TFT 40-pin LCD 5" with resistive touch

  • Adafruit kippah hat LCD driver board

  • Adafruit Powerboost 1000C

  • DPST switch

  • Winmaxle Keyboard BL1

  • 12x M3 6mm threaded inserts

  • 6x M3 10mm

  • 6x M3 6mm

  • Wire

  • 18650 5200mAh battery pack with BMS

  • SMC antenna connector

  • micro SD card extension board

Design Notes:

  • The USB dongle on the side is from the Winmaxle keyboard. There's a spot in the case to store it so it can be used as a spare keyboard.

  • Also, I was tossing up on going a lipo or 18650 pack, so I left the battery cavity large and empty to cater to either.

  • The second small lipo is the one that comes with the Winmaxle keyboard so it can be charged and used independently of the pi, it connects via BT but you could use it's USB dongle also.
