ATtiny85 Bathroom Night Light

All instructions here: https://github.com/Lafeeleonie/motion_activated_night_light_attiny85

A small motion-activated bathroom night light designed for my children.

The idea is simple: the light should only turn on when the room is dark enough and motion is detected. It stays on for a short time, then turns off automatically. The project is based on an ATtiny85, a PIR motion sensor, a photoresistor, and a LED output driven through a 2N7000 MOSFET.

This is a work in progress. The firmware, KiCad schematic, PCB layout, and schematic export exist, but the hardware may still evolve after real-world testing in the bathroom.

Features

  • Motion detection using a PIR sensor

  • Ambient light detection using a photoresistor / LDR

  • LEDs only turn on when it is dark enough

  • Automatic timeout after motion detection

  • Timer refresh when motion is detected again

  • USB-powered 5 V circuit

  • Simple ATtiny85-based design

  • KiCad schematic and PCB layout included

  • Designed to be cheap, compact, and child-friendly
