This 3D-printable model is designed as a simple and affordable cricothyrotomy training simulator for practicing emergency surgical airway access during medical simulation and training scenarios.
The trainer is designed to be attached directly to a patient simulator or a live role player using straps and carabiners. We use 3D-printed carabiners available on Printables to secure the trainer in place.
Carabiner model:
The skin is simulated using a "coban", which is wrapped around the trainer in the area where the incision is performed. This provides an inexpensive and easily replaceable outer layer for repeated training sessions.
The trachea is secured in position using two elastic bands and an additional cable tie at the lower part of the trainer.
This is a relatively simple training model and is not intended to perfectly reproduce human anatomy or tissue properties. However, for our training purposes, it provides a practical and reusable solution that allows us to incorporate cricothyrotomy practice into realistic medical simulation scenarios.
PRINTING AND ASSEMBLY
Before printing, make sure to orient the model vertically in your slicer for the best printing results.
After printing:
Use a cable tie to secure the lower part of the trachea.
Wrap a coban around the training area to simulate a replaceable skin layer.
Attach the trainer to the patient simulator or role player using straps and carabiners.
IMPORTANT MEDICAL AND SAFETY DISCLAIMER
This model is intended exclusively for training, simulation, and educational purposes.
It is NOT a certified or approved medical device, has not been clinically validated, and is not intended for diagnostic, therapeutic, or clinical use.
This model is a simulation aid only and must not be considered a substitute for certified medical training equipment, formal medical education, established clinical protocols, or official instructions and guidelines.
The trainer does not perfectly reproduce real human anatomy, tissue resistance, or procedural conditions. Skills practiced using this model should therefore always be supplemented by appropriate professional education and training.
Any procedure involving cutting or sharp instruments should only be performed in a controlled training environment with appropriate safety precautions. Extra care must be taken when the trainer is attached to a live role player to prevent accidental injury.
Users are solely responsible for evaluating the suitability and safety of this model for their intended training environment and for complying with applicable laws, regulations, institutional policies, and training protocols.
The creator assumes no responsibility or liability for injury, incorrect training practices, equipment damage, adverse outcomes, or any other consequences resulting directly or indirectly from the manufacture, modification, or use of this model.
