Parametric (FreeCAD) Coin Sorter

This is a stacked-sieve type coin sorter where coins are dumped in the top and filter down a several tiers of sieves with decreasingly small holes. The current *.step files are set for a size of 120 mm x 120 mm x 35mm sorting trays with holes designed for Canadian Currency

Editing the file:

  • This was created in FreeCAD 1.1 (https://www.freecad.org/downloads.php)

  • Variables (VarSet):

    • Box Height

      • Top part of the sieve tray

      • Make it larger than inset depth

      • Change to something small to generate the lid

    • Inset Depth - Part of the sieve that nests into the tray below

    • Tolerance - Adjust this up or down if your boxes nest too snug or loose respectively

    • Size - Length and width of the box

    • Thickness - Wall thickness

    • Minimum Spacing - Spacing between coin holes

    • Coin#

      • Diameter of the coins in mm (used to calculated hole size)

      • Must be in order of largest to smallest

        • Coin1: 28.0 mm (Toonie)

        • Coin2: 26.5 mm (Loonie)

        • ...

        • ...

    • Which Coin

      • Determines the size of hole that is generated in the model (an average of the diameter of the coin and the coin above it)

        • ex. If WhichCoin = 2 and Coin2 = 26.5 mm (Loonie), a tray with holes bigger than a Loonie but smaller than a Toonie will appear

      • Must be an integer value

      • Anything larger than 10 will result in one giant hole
