This is a complete overhaul of my original OSRS skill icons 3d model project. https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:6834722.
This was made by exporting the image information to a json file using a python script i wrote. the json contained a 2d array of each pixels hexcode value. it also includes a height map. by default the height map is sorted in order of perceived brightness. the height of the lowest pixel is set at 3 and each successive color adds 0.5mm to the height to give the model texture. any pixel that has a transparent alpha value set is set as null in the json output.
Once the json has been exported it is imported to openscad using the json object support added in the nightly version. the openscad iterates over the array and creates a cube for each pixel sized to be 3x3x<pixel map height>. I have also added support for generating a rudimentary plaque behind the icons as well as adding max level text if you want it.
