The button stopped functioning on my pet gate and I couldn't open it. I owned it up and found that the button had cracked and the broken piece was preventing me from fully depressing the button. I redesigned the button in Solidworks and gave it a print. Tolerances are close, but it functions perfectly. The spring does make sound / give a small amount of resistance when pressing the button, but it works flawlessly.
Looking at the button I removed, I think the tiny lip on the bottom lead to the failure.
