The original back plate was attached with some very strong double-sided tape.
I pre-heated it with a hair dryer, pried open the top-right corner with help of a beefy suction cup, and torn open the rest.
The most dangerous step is to detach / cut the little PCB from the battery. Proceed with extreme caution, don't short the battery by accident!
Preserving this PCB tricks the trackpad to enable haptic feedback.
If you hate haptic feedback, just recycle the whole battery :)

Re-attach the battery PCB, use Kapton tape to seal PCB from touching metal case.
