Hive Memory
Hive Memory is a fully 3D-printable mechanical reminder designed for beekeepers.
During a hive inspection, using a phone, notebook, or pen can be inconvenient—especially while wearing gloves. Hive Memory lets you quickly record the most important information by rotating three clearly defined modules:
Hive status — normal, uncertain, or action required
Return time — no special date, 1, 3, 7, or 14 days
Next action — queen check, swarm check, add space, feeding, or health treatment
Simply set the required sequence before leaving the hive. The information remains visible directly on the hive, allowing you to transfer it calmly into your notebook or beekeeping app later.
Each rotating module has positive indexing and stops firmly in its selected position. It will not rotate on its own due to wind, vibration, or light accidental contact. The large polygon-shaped knobs are easy to grip and operate while wearing beekeeping gloves.
The complete functional mechanism is 3D printed. No magnets, metal springs, bearings, or electronic components are required.
Hive Memory can be mounted in two ways:
attached with strong outdoor double-sided tape,
screwed to a wooden hive using the integrated mounting holes.
Drainage openings in the base allow rainwater to escape instead of collecting inside the device. The open construction also makes the mechanism easy to inspect, dry, and clean.
The design uses relatively little filament and consists of simple, replaceable parts. Individual symbol sleeves can be reprinted separately if damaged or customized for a different workflow.
For outdoor use, PETG or another weather-resistant filament is recommended. Materials with good UV and temperature resistance are preferable when the device will remain permanently exposed to sunlight and rain.
Example
Action required → 3 days → Feeding
This sequence means that the colony requires attention, should be checked again in three days, and the next task concerns supplementary feeding.
Hive Memory does not replace complete apiary records. It provides a fast physical reminder of what matters before the next visit.
