Raven Shadowbox

If you have ever wanted to turn a 3D print into something that genuinely glows, this is your moment. This is the shadowbox version with four layers featuring a hauntingly beautiful Ravens in the Night design. These dramatic silhouetted layers come alive with stunning depth and detail the instant you backlight them, making it the kind of print that stops people in their tracks.

The box is designed as a self-contained display piece. Just drop in a small LED puck, strip light, COB strip or twinkly lights like I did and watch it happen. Ravens in daylight are cool, but backlit and glowing at night, they are absolutely mesmerizing.

Print Tips

• You can print the layers in light color filament (white, off white and translucent) or you can print the shadowbox layers in contrasting filaments for the best depth effect suggested colors in the PDF, using white or natural for the back diffuser and dark tones for the foreground silhouetted panels.

• The box body looks great in black, dark filament or wood Filament to make those glowing layers really pop.

• A fine layer height on the panels will give you crisp, clean detail.

• minimal supports are needed on the box if you flip it so the retaining lip is on the build plate and you use light sparse tree supports, and the four distinct layers slot right into place. You might need to cut a little off the top layers spacers with your filament clippers to make it fit perfect depending on your printers accuracy and clean the supports out of the channel to make the back plate fit right in.
