My large Samsonite luggage has hinges made out of some kind of rubber, that both failed (see pictures)

The replacement used elasticity of PETG to replace it.

Print 1 hinge, 2 feet per hinge you need to replace.

Printing

The feet should be printed with the flat surface on bottom, I've used PETG but TPU might work

The hinge should be printed vertically, so flexilibity is not trying to delaminate the print. It must be printing out of material with elasticity, PLA won't work. I've used PETG, with some organic supports

Reparation:

  • open the lining of the luggage

  • unscrew the existing hinge (mine used philips screws, I think) and remove all parts

  • replace the hinge, bolt from the inside using on each hole

    • one M5x25 bolt (I used button style head)

    • the original grey washer

    • the actual wall of the luggage

    • the hinge

    • a M5x20 washer

    • a M5 nilstop nut

  • once done. screw the feet (they have M5 thread) to hide the bolt
