This is a ground-up redesign in the same general style as the clock I created for the Printables NEW Prusament Spool Contest in April 2026. Because this version is not constrained by the contest requirement to reuse a spool, the parts could be optimized for printing, alignment, and assembly.
240 mm face. Sized near the practical maximum for a printer with a 256 mm build area.
Positive placement. Built-in locating bosses position the numerals and hour indices on the honeycomb dial.
Optional chapter ring. Adds white minute/second markers and yellow five-second ticks without requiring a multicolor printer.
Parts, Filament, and Hardware
Printed parts, the exact filaments used for the photographed build, and the required hardware are listed below:
Part | Qty. Req'd | Filament Used |
Hex Disk | 1 | Elegoo PLA+ Black |
Backing Plate | 1 | Sunlu Matte PETG Grey |
Chapter Ring | 1 | Elegoo PLA+ Black, White, Yellow |
Outer Ring | 1 | Sunlu Silk PLA+ Silver |
Numbers | 1 of each | eSUN PLA+ Fire Engine Red |
Indices | 8 | Elegoo PLA+ White |
Hardware and Assembly Supplies
Item | Qty. | Description | Link |
Clock Movement | 1 | Mudder KKYA13841
Screws | 8 | #4 x 1/4 in. Pan Head Screw
Medium-bodied cyanoacrylate (CA) | As required | Adhesive for Numerals, indices, and chapter ring |
|
MOVEMENT FIT: For best results, use the specified Mudder KKYA13841 movement or source a compatible movement of the same size.

Design and Printing Notes
Numeral and index placement. Dry-fit each part on its locating boss before applying adhesive. The bosses establish position and orientation, so there is no need to measure each location by hand.
Single-color chapter-ring printing. The chapter ring is one piece. Use slicer settings to print the black base first, change to white when the minute markers begin, then change to yellow when the five-second ticks begin. The color changes occur at different heights, so no multicolor system is required.
COLOR-CHANGE ORDER: Black chapter-ring body -> white minute markers -> yellow five-second ticks.
Face Alignment Details
Another upgrade from the spool face clock is the designed location aids for assembly:

Dial and backplate alignment. The screw pattern aligns these two parts. The slots must remain oriented at 12 o'clock as this will maintain alignment during later assembly of the dial into the outer ring. See below:

Assembly Order
Assemble the dial components and case first. Install the quartz movement last.
Attach the numerals and indices. Dry-fit them on the locating bosses, then adhere them to the honeycomb dial.
Fasten the dial to the backplate. Use the screw pattern for alignment and keep the dial slot oriented at 12 o'clock.
Insert the assembly into the outer ring. Engage the outer-ring tab with the dial slot; the screw pattern has already established dial-to-backplate alignment.

Install the chapter ring. Align its locating slot at 12 o'clock, verify the marker orientation, then glue the chapter ring into the outer ring.
Install the quartz movement last. Fit the movement after the clock body is complete, then install the hands and battery.
