Heavy fermentation balloons can easily slip through your hands, these handles make it easier e.g. to lift them out of their transport baskets.

Customization:

  • FreeCad model is included to allow custom neck sizes.

  • Different sizes can be selected by the "Variant" property of the body.

  • Dimensions can easily be changed in the "Dim" parameter table:

    • Measure the top diameter right below the topmost "collar". Add 1-2mm to allow it to slide down the neck a little bit, so the fermentation cap can still slip over the collar. Don't make it too wide, so the balloon can not slip through the handle.

    • Measure the bottom diameter 3cm below the top diameter. Add 2-3mm to allow it to slide down the neck a little bit, no tight fit is required.

  • For FreeCad newbies: To export as STL, click "body", then use "File" -> "Export" and select "STL Mesh" (or STEP, if preferred).

Required parts:

  • 2x same-sized handles

  • 2x M6x16 cylinder head "machine" screws (or longer)

  • 2x M6 nuts

Printing instructions:

  • Use a tough, ductile material, e.g. PETG (brittle materials like PLA might break without warning).

  • Either use supports for the upper part of the nut insert or cut sagged parts with a knife.

  • 2 wall loops and 10% gyroid infill seem to be stable enough.
