This is a 3D model of Berner Altstadt, Switzerland, at 1:10'000.
It measures 15.0 × 10.0 × 1.8 cm and covers real terrain between 496 and 571 m above sea level — heights are at true scale, with no vertical exaggeration.
WHAT'S IN IT
- Terrain from swissALTI3D: 0.5 m source data on a 0.5 m model grid
- Computed at 0.050 mm print grid, finer than the 0.2 mm a nozzle can show — so that buildings, trees and bridges survive the raster
- 6,385 buildings from swissBUILDINGS3D
- 49 bridge sections kept above the terrain
- 13 watercourses made to run downhill
- Place name and scale engraved into the underside
PRINTING
- The model is one closed, watertight body — 9,975,112 triangles
- 0.1–0.2 mm layers. Adaptive layer height suits relief well — fine on the ridges, coarse on the flats
- Base is 4 mm thick under the lowest point
- A separate drop-in frame is included: 15.6 × 10.6 cm, 6 mm tall. The model drops in from above and rests on an inner ledge — print it in a second colour
