Had this saved as a practice exercise from a while ago. Saw the Geared Spinners contest and thought I'd toss it in.

Design:

Fifteen gears interlocked with a half twist, making a mobius strip. Spin one, and they all spin.

Designed in Fusion 360 by making a circle of spheres. Then, creating gears where every other sphere intersects. Finally, draw the rest of the owl.

The gears have a ledge so they're easy to hold together while gluing. The shelf also keeps glue from seeping onto the ring.

The ends of each ring half has been chamfered to prevent corner blobs from affecting the fit.

You'll need loads of supports for the ring, but the gears can be printed without them.

Assembly:

You'll need to print:

  • 1 x ring

  • 4 x gearflat

  • 26 x gear

Glue together the two halves of each gear such that they bevel in.

Use the gearflat on the two most horizontal rings, facing opposite of each other as shown in the picture outlined in purple.
