The problem with most beard guides
Nearly every beard shaping tool uses the same generic cheek curve. That curve is an average, and faces aren't averages. If your cheek line runs steeper or shallower than whoever designed the tool, you end up fighting it - either ignoring the edge you paid for, or trimming to a line that isn't yours.
