Inspired by a recent episode of Tested featuring Adam Savage and Matt Parker, I created a strut system to make tensegrity models using 2mm elastic cordage. Each strut can hold up to 6 knots at each end, two per slot. You can increase the number of slots to 6 or increase the length or diameter using the source scad file.
To build the pictured model, you will need 6 struts and cut 24 segments of elastic to 56mm each. Tie a knot at each end such that the length between knots is approximately 36mm when not under tension. I recommend having an extra set of hands available for assembly (see linked video above), as holding the struts in place is difficult until finished. If you are assembling yourself, try using twist ties to keep the first two struts together until the assembly is completed. The caps are optional and can be glued in to place after assembly.
I print my struts horizontally with one slot facing up and use "Support on build plate only" for best results.
