Bitaxe Gamma – VR Cooling Backplate

When overclocking the Bitaxe Gamma, the ASIC chip often isn't the bottleneck (especially with a good heatsink like Copperzilla). The voltage regulator section barely gets any direct airflow on the stock layout.

This backplate holds a 40x40x20mm fan (the stock Bitaxe fan or any other compatible 40x40x20mm one) angled to blow directly on the VR components.

Result (750MHz / 1.2V / 25.2W, 1.6 Th/s, identical settings before/after):

  • VR temp: 71°C → 55°C (–16°C, over 20%+ reduction with only 50% fan speed)

  • More thermal headroom before the VR becomes your overclocking limit instead of the ASIC

BOM

  • 1× printed backplate

  • 1× 40x40x20mm fan (stock or aftermarket)

  • 2× M3x8 screw

  • 2× M3x25 socket head cap screw

  • 2× M3 nut

  • Y-Fan cable

Assembly

  1. Mount backplate to the Bitaxe (2× M3x8)

  2. Mount fan to backplate with 2× M3x25 + M3 nuts, angled toward the VR section

  3. Reconnect fan cables (front and back Fan with Y-Cable), check clearance/routing

Notes

  • Tested on Bitaxe Gamma 602 black edition — other revisions may need adjusted mounting positions

  • Doesn't replace a proper main heatsink (Copperzilla etc.) — this targets the VR specifically, not the ASIC
