This effect was created five years ago and is based on a very simple idea: five completely examinable boxes, five spectators, and an impossible demonstration of intuition while fully blindfolded.
Effect
You introduce five small boxes, all of which can be freely examined.
Each box is handed to a different spectator. You then put on a blindfold, completely blocking your vision.
Each spectator secretly places either a small personal object inside their box or a folded piece of paper with a word written on it. They close the boxes and mix them together so that there is apparently no possible way for you to know which box belongs to whom.
Still completely blindfolded, you pick up a box, open it, and are able to determine which spectator the object or message belongs to.
The entire method is mechanical and requires no electronics.
The Secret — Magnetic Coding
The five boxes are secretly identified using a magnetic marking system.
Each box contains a different configuration of magnets. When you open a box, simply place the lid underneath the base and rotate it. The way the two parts attract, repel, or react allows you to instantly identify which box you are holding — entirely by touch.
Box 1 — Attraction
Box 1 contains 2 magnets:
1 magnet inside the lid
1 magnet inside the bottom of the box
Place the lid underneath the box.
The two parts will attract each other. As you rotate the lid, the magnetic attraction will naturally cause the parts to align and turn toward one another.
This identifies Box 1.
Box 2 — Repulsion
Box 2 also contains 2 magnets:
1 magnet inside the lid
1 magnet inside the bottom of the box
This time, the magnets are installed with the opposite polarity.
When the lid is placed underneath the box, the two parts repel each other. Even when the lid is rotated, you continue to feel the repulsion.
This identifies Box 2.
Box 3 — No Magnetic Reaction
Box 3 contains no magnets.
When the lid is placed underneath the box, there is no attraction and no repulsion, regardless of how much you rotate it.
This immediately identifies Box 3.
Box 4 — 180° Magnetic Coding
Box 4 contains 4 magnets:
2 magnets inside the lid
2 magnets inside the bottom of the box
When the lid is placed underneath the box, you feel an attraction.
As you rotate the lid, the next strong attraction occurs after approximately 180 degrees.
This distinctive magnetic pattern identifies Box 4.
Box 5 — 360° Magnetic Coding
Box 5 contains 2 magnets:
1 magnet inside the lid
1 magnet inside the bottom of the box
The magnets are positioned so that the two parts attract, but you need to make approximately a full 360-degree rotation before reaching the same strong attraction point again.
This identifies Box 5.
Quick Identification Guide
Box | Magnetic Reaction |
|---|---|
Box 1 | Attraction with natural magnetic alignment |
Box 2 | Repulsion |
Box 3 | No reaction |
Box 4 | Attraction pattern repeating after approximately 180° |
Box 5 | Attraction pattern repeating after approximately 360° |
Construction
All magnets used are neodymium magnets measuring 10 mm in diameter and 1 mm thick.
You will need a total of 10 magnets to build the complete set:
Box 1: 2 magnets
Box 2: 2 magnets
Box 3: 0 magnets
Box 4: 4 magnets
Box 5: 2 magnets
Total: 10 neodymium magnets — 10 × 1 mm
A complete assembly diagram will be provided, along with an instructional video showing both how to build the five boxes and how to perform the routine.

I add a box to put away boxes inside, to close it, you'ill need 2 magnet 10x1mm
