Adaptive Keyboard Keyguard & Dust Cover

A 3D-printable accessibility accessory designed to make everyday keyboard use easier, more accurate and more comfortable.

Typing can be difficult for people with reduced dexterity or difficulty accurately targeting individual keys. Accidental presses of neighbouring keys can interrupt typing and make computer use frustrating. This keyboard overlay provides a simple physical solution by creating individual openings above all of the keys, helping guide the user's finger towards the intended key while reducing the likelihood of pressing multiple keys at once.

When the keyboard is not being used, the same design functions as a protective dust cover, helping keep the keys clean without requiring a separate accessory.

The design is intended to be simple, lightweight and printable on a standard 3D printer. Its open-grid construction minimises material while maintaining the structure needed to separate the keys. The result is a single, multifunctional accessory that combines accessibility, protection and practical 3D printing in one design.

Print Settings

  • This can be printed in nearly any material but I would recommend PETG as it is stronger than PLA even though both would work.

  • The infill can be minimal 10-15% would be enough as it is not loadbearing.

  • The model can be printed with no supports.

  • Made as two separate parts that simply click together and can be glued if wanted.

  • This model has a 0.4mm tolerance between the two parts so it should be able to slide together easily.

  • I have also attached the STEP (.stp) and Fusion360 (.f3d) files for editing and adjusting.
