Universal Stackable and Flexiable Wrench Hanger/Organizing System

Everyone has wrenches. There are many wrench organizing solutions out there. However, I couldn't find one really suits my needs.

The challenges  were:

1. I have more than one sets of wrenches which are in different sizes, shapes and types. The organizer should be universal, to some extend at least, so I don't have to design dedicated one for each of wrenches;

2. For some commonly used wrenches, I have more than one, usually 3 to 4 wrenches of the same size. I need a flexible solution so I can put more than one same sized wrenches in the same organizer；

3. I need a space-saving way to organize my wrenches to replace the current messy situation in the drawer；

4. These stored wrenches should be easy to access, and I should be able to easily see the sizes I need; 

5. I should be able to easily remove or add wrenches to the organizer;

6. The solution should be easy to adapt different storage applications such as different types of pegboards, walls, draws... etc.

Show Case

A Modulized Universal Stackable and Flexiable Wrench Hanger/Organizing System.

The current wrench hanging system I have built for myself. The wrenches are easy to access. The number plates clearly show sizes of the corresponding wrenches and the number plates are easily swappable if I wanted to change the wrench. I am able to hang 44 wrenches(or 2 to 3 more) on this 660mm long pegboard which saves a lot of space.

Ratchet combination wrenches

My mostly using combination wrenches. There are some of multiple same sized wrenches hanging together as you can see. Some empty modules are waiting for adding new wrenches. 

Modules for Open-End Wrenches. There are two types of module. One for normal thicker wrenches. One for thin type 2~3mm thickness wrenches.

About The System

This system is still an ongoing project since there are too many different wrenches in the market which obviously I can not cover them all in one design. However, thanks to its highly flexible and modulized concept the system is very easy to expand and add countless modules to it.

Wrench Hanger/Holder Modules

Currently, this system suitable for most common mainstream wrenches, such as combination wrenches and open-end wrenches.  Size from 6mm to 24mm and similar sized Imperial wrenches. Thickness from 2mm to 8mm. 

The modules are designed not only to hang on the walls but also can lay down to place in the draws.

The modules can be stacked together via dovetail grooves as you can see in the upon diagram. List of current available modules is below here:

Combination Wrench Modules

6-10mm, 10-13mm, 12-17mm, 17-24mm

Open-End Wrench Modules

10-12(8-10)mm, 16-18(14-17_15-18)mm, 17-19mm, 19-22mm, 22-24mm

Thin Open-End Wrench Modules (2-3mm)

8-12mm, 13-16mm, 16-19mm

Note: The sizes in the list are not absolute sizes. Similar or close sized wrenches should be able to compatiable. Exp. 10-12(8-10)mm should also holds 6-7mm wrench.

You are welcome to request different sizes so I can add more modules in the future.

V Shape(Dovetail) Connecting Bar

This connnecting bar is besically a middle-ware which allows the basic wrench modules to stack together, and it connects to the applied surface(pegboard, wall, draw bottom...etc.) or mounting brackets as well.

How the connecting bar and wrench modules work together

With this V shape connecting bar as middle-ware, the subjects can be easily hang on the wall(pegboard), or lay in the draw and organized.

Accessories

The Number Plates

The number plate is designed for you to print the numbers by yourself. Simply load the empty plate model in your slicer and add what ever number or simple text on it and print. Here is my settings for your reference.

Mounting Compatibility and Applications

The Wrench Hanger/Holder Modules can be directly mounted on flat surfaces via the V shape connecting bar, or be mounted on pegboards as long as you have the right brackets for the pegboard. Currently the screw holes on the mounting modules are designed for Square Hole Pegboard application.

You can also get the dimensions I have provided in upon link for you to create your own V shape connecting bar if you are using different mounting surfaces(pegboards) other than mine. Or just let me know if you like to have different sizes to adapt your needs.

Printing

Nothing special on printing. I printed PETG with 0.4 nozzle, 0.2 layer height, 3-wall myself. 

There are two types of model files STL and 3MF. 3MF files come with pre-designed printing support which you could choose to have different slicer settings on the support. 

Assembly

The assembly is pretty straight forward. It is bit tight to slide the wrench holder modules on the V shape connecting bar especially when you have many modules. You might need to use rubber hammer for this.
