Modular Toploader Wall Display – Support-Free Design

Build a clean, expandable wall display for trading cards in regular 3 × 4 inch toploaders. Combine individual holders horizontally or vertically using concealed rear connectors. Rounded corners, matching front rail heights and an open center keep the display tidy while reducing material use.

Designed with Pokémon cards in mind, but compatible with other trading cards when the toploader's actual outside dimensions fit the channel. No adhesive touches the cards or toploaders.

Included files

  • Toploader_Holder_With_Mounting_Holes.stl — holder with two 3.6 mm screw holes.

  • Toploader_Holder_No_Mounting_Holes.stl — matching holder without screw holes; rear connector pockets are retained.

  • Press_Fit_Connector.stl — use two connectors per shared edge; rotate 90° for vertical connections.

  • Editable STEP files and a CadQuery Python source file.

Dimensions and compatibility

  • Holder: 86.9 × 114 × 9.85 mm

  • Intended toploader: regular 3 × 4 inches, nominal outside size 76.2 × 101.6 mm

  • Clear guide width: 76.9 mm

  • Clear thickness below the retaining ramps: 3.2 mm

  • Connector: 20.35 × 10.35 × 2.2 mm

  • Rear pocket depth: 2.4 mm

  • Outer corner radius: 2 mm

  • Guide-end radius: 1.2 mm

With modules touching, nominal spacing between toploaders is 10.7 mm horizontally and 12.4 mm vertically.

All STL dimensions are in millimeters; import at 100% scale.

Actual toploader thickness varies and has not been verified for every product. The “35 pt” rating describes the card thickness a toploader accepts, not its outside thickness. This design is not intended for thick toploaders or graded-card slabs.

Start around 0.15 mm and tune for your printer

Print the holder with its flat rear face on the bed and the retaining guides facing upward. Print the connector with its broad, unchamfered face on the bed.

The guides use 45° retaining ramps instead of horizontal cantilevered lips. The rear pockets still require short bridges of approximately 10.3 mm or less. The geometry is designed to print without supports, but bridging quality depends on your printer and filament.

Connector fit

The connector is designed for a light press fit: nominal interference is 0.025 mm per side, or 0.05 mm total, at the ends and neck. Interference normal to the sloped flanks differs. A 0.25 mm front chamfer helps insertion.

Print two holders and two connectors first. Remove any bridge strands or elephant foot from the pockets before checking the fit.

Printer calibration, extrusion and material can change the actual fit substantially. If adjustment is needed, edit the source rather than scaling the entire holder, which also changes the toploader channel and module spacing.

Assembly and wall mounting

  1. Place the holders front-face down on a soft, flat surface.

  2. Align adjacent module edges and press two connectors into each shared seam from the rear.

  3. Mount the assembly flush against a wall or rigid backing board.

  4. Use the screw-hole version wherever direct fastening is required; select screws and anchors for your wall or backing material.

  5. Slide each toploader into its holder from the top until it rests on the lower ledge.

The connectors restrain separation within the display plane. They have no positive rear latch, so the wall or backing board provides rear retention.

The load capacity of modules held only by connectors has not been tested; use appropriate direct mounting points throughout the layout.

The holders are open at the top and intended for upright display. Allow enough space above a holder to slide the toploader out.

In tightly stacked layouts, load the cards before final assembly or disassemble the affected section for removal.

Validation status

Both holders and the connector have been checked as valid, single CAD solids and closed manifold STL meshes.

No physical print, fit or load test has been completed. The print settings above are starting recommendations, not a tested print profile.

Preview images show the actual CAD geometry, not a printed sample.

This is a newly constructed original design based on the general idea of modular card displays. No reference STL or CAD model was imported or modified.

Please share your makes and report your toploader dimensions, material and fit results to help improve compatibility.
