A parametric OpenSCAD remake of the modular ant housing platform OpenFormicaria. It is inspired by the original project by Schemen and is not an official part of it.
You get one script with Customizer support. Set the size, switch features on or off, and export the STL. The basic modules (nest M, nest S, 4x gateway , 6x gateway) are already saved as customizer presets.
Not all parameters are broken out in the customizer, but you are free to modify the script to fit your needs.
Features
I tried to apply the best approximatition of the original cv2_* files to the parametric OpenScad script.
Modular base grid of 35 mm, 1x1 up to 4x4 cells, 20 mm high
Dovetail connection slots on the outer edges, one per cell, each with a Ø10 mm bore, selectable per side with snap detents on the dovetail flanks for TPU connectors
Open top with a lid ledge and optional screw posts in two corners for a lid
Ventilation slots with freely adjustable start position and count
Optional back extension with engraved text (editable, auto-fit) and a cross bore
Optional base tray with support ribs, pointed-arch gates (printable without supports) so water can spread, and plug-in pegs that fit matching recesses in the box. Here are the biggest differences to the original
Adjustable peg tolerance (default 0.2 mm)
AI-Disclaimer
no generative AI was used for generating the models.
The code was written with a lot of help from Claude (an AI). The debugging was done by me, the human: staring at the console, deleting duplicate modules, and wondering why the ribs vanished again. I compared the output with the original several times and found the compatibility to be very high. Claude wrote the code, I found out whether it actually worked. A fair split, I think.
