A simple, printable seam allowance and marking template, inspired by a stainless steel sewing template I saw in a pattern-making video. The I-shaped slot lets you mark straight lines, seam allowances and buttonhole positions on fabric or paper patterns with chalk, a fabric pen or a pencil.
HOW TO USE
- Line up the plate edge with your fabric edge or pattern line.
- Draw through the long center slot for a straight line.
- Use the two crossbar slots to mark start and end points, for example the length and position of a buttonhole.
- The open slit at the bottom lets you slide the template over a pin, notch or existing line.
DIMENSIONS
- Plate: 64 x 105 mm, 2 mm thick
- Slot width: 1.6 mm (fits tailor's chalk and most fabric pens)
- Crossbars: 32 mm long, 10 mm from the top and 7 mm from the bottom edge
PRINT SETTINGS
- Material: PETG recommended (a bit of flex for the bottom tabs). PLA works too.
- Nozzle: 0.4 mm - Layer height: 0.2 mm
- Infill: 100 % or 4+ walls
- Orientation: flat on the bed, no supports needed
NOTES
Dimensions were estimated from the original metal tool, so they may differ slightly from the commercial version. Feel free to scale the model to fit your needs.
