By far the largest and most complicated Rokenbok project I've done to date. Older starter/feature sets came with set themed centerpieces I like to call "Action Parts." These are the parts that really take Rokenbok past just a building or remote control vehicle toy, they are what give builds character.

The Water Tower was first introduced in the 2000 Monorail Starter set. It features a rotating lid that can direct Roks (the blue and red waffle marbles) into one of 9 paths. 8 of those paths are for corner chutes, with the last one being for a special dispenser that is positioned perfectly for the monorail to retrieve from. When this dispenser fills, Roks are collected inside the body of the water tower until enough accumulate to flip the internal tipper, dumping them all at once.

It has many parts, instructions below. If you encounter issues with parts/assembly/fitment, please reach out.

Before we begin:

  1. There are 20 included parts for this assembly

  2. Parts are prefixed with a number that indicates how many of them you need to print

  3. This model supports installing a Rokduino motor module. If using a motor, don't print parts labeled with (no motor)

  4. There are 3 detent ring styles in 2 tolerance sets for a total of 6. None = no indexing, Weak = PLA/stiff filaments, Strong = PETG/soft filaments or using motor

  5. Start with the 0.05 detent rings and move to the 0.015 if your printer tolerances are bad

  6. You will need glue, a small command strip, or some kind of adhesion device for installing 24-25mm coins into the tipper as weight. I use USA quarters

Printing notes:

  • Pick and print one Dispenser Tab depending on color capability

  • Models are not oriented as they should be printed in some cases :(

    • Middle, Tipper, and Lid Pivot Retainer should be printed upside down

    • Add a Snaps and Railings should be printed on flat sides

    • Chutes most likely need a brim

    • Dispenser needs to be oriented on the bottom face with outside brim and supports:

Assembly:

  1. Glue/tape/whatever your coins into Tipper. More coins = more roks held at once. I settled on 9 US quarters.

  2. Drop tipper into Bottom

  3. Install 4 chutes by sliding down into Bottom. This locks in the Tipper.

  4. Install Dispenser by sliding down into Bottom the same way the chutes did.

  5. Install 5 Add a Snaps to the Middle. Three around the bottom, two at the top inside. The three at the bottom can also be installed into the Bottom water tower part instead of the Middle. It doesn't matter much.

  6. Snap in Motor or Lid Pivot and Lid Pivot Retainer to the Middle. Lid Pivot and Retainer shown.

  7. Press Railings into Walkways. If you desire them to look more like the stock parts, carefully take a lighter or mini torch and heat up the segments just under the bends, then bend the entire railing to the shape shown below. It is advisable to print many of them if doing so, so that you have more tries to get it looking nice.

  8. Install the three Walkways to Bottom.

  9. Drop in Detent Ring of choice with the detent aligned like so:

  10. Finally, gently snap lid onto middle. If you find this to be difficult without unsnapping motor or Lid Pivot Retainer, separate Middle from Bottom and support from inside while snapping.
