38×38 mm Camera Case with Adjustable 2020 Extrusion Mount
Compact camera enclosure with a rounded front cover, split lens guard and a two-axis mount for the top of a 20×20 mm aluminium extrusion. Separate clamping screws lock left/right rotation and downward tilt. The mount does not rotate the camera around its optical axis.
Camera compatibility
- PCB: 38×38 mm; assumed thickness 1.6 mm.
- Four Ø2 mm mounting holes on a 34×34 mm pattern.
- Centred lens: Ø14 mm, extending 18 mm above the PCB.
- Space below PCB: 8 mm. Route the cable alongside the connector.
- Cable outlet: Ø6 mm in the side wall.
- Housing: 42.6×42.6×26.6 mm, excluding the hinge; 28.8 mm deep including lens guard arcs.
Check the shape of your lens base and components: the rounded front reduces available space near the front corners. The nominal lens tip projects 0.8 mm beyond the guard arcs.
Hardware
• 4 × Ø2×12 mm self-tapping screws, head Ø4.05 mm — housing assembly.
• 2 × M3×12 screws — tilt and swivel clamps.
• 2 × M3 washers, approximately 0.5 mm thick — clamp screws.
• 2 × M3 heat-set inserts, outer diameter 5 mm, length 4 mm — clamp ears.
• 2 × M3 screws, approximately 8–10 mm long — extrusion base.
• 2 × M3 T-nuts matching your extrusion slot — extrusion base.
The 12 mm housing screw length is measured under the head. Rear counterbores are Ø4.5 mm × 4.5 mm deep; screws reach approximately 4.9 mm into the front posts, including their pointed tips. Front pilot holes are Ø1.7 mm: check suitability for your particular self-tapping screws. Tighten by hand.
Insert seats are Ø4.6 mm × 4.2 mm deep, with 0.3 mm lead-in chamfers. Check fit with your inserts and material. Base mounting holes are Ø3.3 mm on 24 mm centres, with Ø6.5 mm × 3.2 mm head recesses. Select screw length to suit the T-nuts without bottoming out.
Files and printing
Print one of each of the four main STL files:
- Camera_38x38_front.stl: rounded front and lens guards.
- Camera_38x38_back.stl: rear housing, screw recesses and tilt shaft.
- Camera_compact_clamp_M3.stl: dual-axis clamp.
- Camera_compact_base_2020.stl: base for the top of a 2020 extrusion.
STLs use millimetres. Starting settings: 0.2 mm layers, 4 perimeters and 30–40% infill. These are starting settings, not a validated print profile.
The front STL is oriented on its side. Inspect local support needs under the lens guards and internal overhangs. Print the back with its rear face on the bed and the base flat on the bed. Inspect support needs for the rear horizontal shaft, clamp and recessed screw-hole roofs. Keep supports out of clamp slots and insert seats where possible.
Assembly
1. Install the two heat-set inserts in the clamp and allow them to cool. One enters from the outer side of the lower clamp, the other from the top of the upper clamp. Keep them flush; do not push them through the thin wall behind the seats.
2. Attach the base to the upper extrusion slot using two M3 screws and T-nuts.
3. Fit the clamp over the vertical base shaft, oriented as shown in the assembly render.
4. Insert the rear housing's horizontal shaft into the upper clamp.
5. Thread the cable through the Ø6 mm outlet before connecting it if the connector is larger than the outlet. Install the PCB and fasten the front using the four 12 mm screws through the rear recesses and PCB holes.
6. Install the two M3 clamp screws with washers from the opposite side to their inserts. Set the viewing angle and tighten gently. Leave cable slack for adjustment.
