Dancing Ghosts is a little gear toy that you can hold, spin and clip onto a keychain or bag. A pumpkin sits in the middle, three ghosts circle around it, and a ring with a spiderweb feel and a loop for hanging holds everything together. Under the pumpkin and the ghosts are real, visible gear teeth, so the whole thing works like a tiny machine.
Hold the outer ring and twist the pumpkin. The pumpkin drives the three ghosts, which spin on the spot and also dance around the pumpkin at the same time. This is called a planetary gear set. The teeth are cut in a V shape, which is what keeps the ghosts locked in place with no axles, plates or extra pieces. It all prints as one piece, with small gaps around every tooth so the gears can turn freely as soon as it comes off the bed. You can also use it as a pendant, a fidget toy or a desk decoration.
***PRINT SETTINGS***
It needs no supports, no brim, and no assembly. Print with 0.15 or 0.2mm layers, 3 perimeters, and 15% infill. Turn on "elephant foot compensation" so the first layer doesn't fuse together. Print slowly at around 40-50 mm/s. After printing, twist the pumpkin a few times to free the gears.
