Boo! Ghost Luminaire

A cute ghost, raising its arms with an "O"-shaped mouth, that goes over a flameless LED tealight. Its eyes and mouth glow, light spills out of the tattered hem onto the table, and the 1.2 mm body of a white print glows softly. The top of the head stays a dim, matte white (see Features). One part, no supports, no hardware. Print a few and line them up on the windowsill or along the stairs for Halloween night.

Features

• Prints in one go: upright, no supports. The inside roof is a 45° cone and the hem notches have 34° flanks. The only overhangs are the tops of the eye and mouth holes (6.5–8 mm wide), which every printer bridges.

• Glows: the body wall is 1.2 mm, exactly 3 perimeters with a 0.4 mm nozzle, so white PLA lets the light through evenly from the hem up to the eyes. Above about 76 mm the head gets thicker (5–9 mm) because the inside roof has to be a 45° cone to print without supports, so the top of the head glows only faintly.

• Centers the candle by itself: four small ribs inside the hem hold a 38 mm tealight in the middle (1 mm play per side), so the face lights evenly. The ribs sit on the feet, so they also add bed contact.

• Easy to switch on: the bottom is open. Lift the ghost, switch the candle, put the ghost back over it.

Size

74.9 × 64.9 × 100 mm (with arms), about 30 cm³. Fits standard 38 mm LED tealights (1 mm play per side; 39 mm still fits). LED tealights I found listed were 25–38 mm tall, and the ghost has 52 mm of free height inside

What you need

• 1 × flameless LED tealight, 38 mm diameter (the standard size).

• LED only. Never use a real candle: PLA softens at about 60 °C.
