A desk calendar you never have to replace. Turn the two cubes to show the date and the bar in front to show the month. Two cubes are enough for every date from 01 to 31: one has 0 to 5, the other 0, 1, 2, 6, 7 and 8, and the 6 turned upside down is the 9. Each of the three bars carries four months. The stand holds the cubes and the bar you need, with the two spare bars out of sight behind the cubes. The numbers and letters are debossed, ready to fill with paint.

  • 6 printed parts

What else you need

  • Nothing else to make it work.

  • To make the numbers stand out: acrylic paint or a paint marker in a contrasting colour. Brush it into the debossed numbers and letters and wipe the face clean with a damp cloth before it dries.

  • Optional: four self-adhesive rubber bumpers, 10 mm across, for the recesses under the stand.

Print settings

  • 0.16 mm layer height (0.20 mm works; thinner gives crisper numbers)

  • 3 walls

  • 15% gyroid infill

  • PLA material

For a 0.4 mm nozzle. Filament amounts are estimates for these settings.

How to build it

  1. Print the parts: Print the cubes on any face and the bars lying on a long side. Turn on elephant's foot compensation (about 0.15 mm) so the bottom edges don't flare out; the cubes and bars have 0.4 mm play in the stand.

  2. Fill the numbers: Optional: brush acrylic paint into the numbers and letters and wipe the faces clean while it is still wet. A paint marker works too.

  3. Set up the stand: Stick the rubber bumpers into the recesses under the stand if you use them. Put the bar with the current month in the channel at the front and the other two in the tray at the back.

  4. Set the date: Put the cubes in their pockets with the date facing you. For 01 to 09, the 0 can go on either cube. For a 9, turn the 6 upside down, so its bar sits above it.

  5. Every month: Turn the bar a quarter turn to the next month. After April and August, swap it for the next bar from the back.
