Slim mini wallet with pop-up card storage system. Just 5 meters of filament and 1 hour of printing!
Upcoming Reinforced Wallet Version with Customizations
I’m working on a new version of the wallet, reinforcing the two areas that tend to get damaged. So far, I’ve fixed the breakages in the rails of the outer shell, but I still need to improve the flexible part that connects the inner rails to the back.
With this new design, I will also offer some customizations inspired by video games, movies, and series I like, specifically for users with multicolor printers.
In the meantime, you can either wait or print this version, which isn’t too bad—though it will only last a few months. It consumes very little filament.
There are different versions available depending on the number of cards you want to store, it is recommended that you print the one that exactly matches the number of cards you have.
Extra optional parts
Updates
- 2022-07-24: Added a remix to add a purse to store coins.
- 2022-07-24: Improved measurements and tolerances to not require adjustments on most machines.
- 2022-05-22: Added a remix to add a clip that hold bills.
Printing
- Print one bottom and one top of the same version you want.
- If you want good results do not print it at layer height of 0.2mm, the model is divisible in multiples of 0.3mm, therefore a layer height 0.3mm, 0.15mm, 0.10mm, etc... is more than recommended.
- If you print it at 0.3mm you will have your wallet in just one hour, print it at 0.1mm to have a better quality in twice the time.
- Models are already oriented as they should be printed and supports are not required.
- The covers are very thin and can be transparent, it is advisable to use intense or dark colors.
- Add a color change after printing the first layers to have the edges of the wallet in a different color than the covers.
Assembly
To assemble this wallet you don't need anything additional, just your hands and the two printed parts.
Insert the bottom part into the top part in the open position of the wallet, first one side and then push the other until the parts fit.
Make sure you assemble it with no cards inside.
If you need to disassemble it, simply remove the cards, slide the back to its open position and then insert a finger through the slot in the wallet and pull it back.
Adjusting tolerances
With the new version this guide is not necessary, even so I leave it in case someone needs it.
Both the cards and the parts of the wallet must have some friction between them. They should neither slide on their own nor should they get stuck.
The model as it is should work for any printer, but if you have problems follow the next procedure.
- Print the bottom and put your cards into it.
- If the friction is not correct scale only the X axis.
- Once you have the bottom part how you want it, apply the same scale you applied to the bottom part to the top part and print it.
- Now snap them together and check friction first without cards. Check the assembly instructions.
- If the friction is ok, insert your cards now and check the friction again.
- If step 4 or 5 isn't right, adjust the X axis scale from the top part again until everything works fine.
