For a larger project I’ve been working on, I had a need for a sliding latch.

Came up with this design. It incorporates embedded magnets which stop the sliding ‘tongue’ rattling between the ‘open’ and ‘closed’ positions. They provide just enough resistence yet still permit the ‘switch’ to slide open or closed. And it gives a satisfying ‘click’ when operated too.

It uses four 4mm diameter 1.5mm thick neodymium magnets which are dropped into the model during the first print pause. Remember to observe the polarity of the magnets when placing them. You want to end up with the attraction of UNLIKE poles facing each other. During the second pause, lift the ‘slider’ from the print bed, invert it, and drop it into the case.

The print needs no supports, no brim – and no glue!
