I picked up a piece of equipment which I suspected had an internal Morse Taper of MT1 (or maybe MT0), but I didn't have any corresponding tooling in my shop to verify the size. So I made these gauges to verify the size before I spend money on tooling to fit. Of course these are not precision gauges, but they are good enough to verify that a given taper is a Morse Taper, and to identify the taper size.
The gauges can be printed in either “outer” (use inside of the gauge to check the outside of a male Morse Taper), or “inner” (use the gauge to check the inside of a female Morse Taper). This might seem a little bit confusing, but it is obvious in use.
For the outer gauges, only 1 inch (25mm) sections are printed to save on print time and filament use.
The inner gauges have a hole in one end that can be tapped for to use a screw as a “handle”. Screw sizes for gauges 0 and 1 are #10-24 (or M5-0.8); for the other sizes use 1/4-"20 (M6-1).
Note : I did not print out the Morse Taper sizes 4 - 7 as I did not need those sizes. In addition, the gauges for sizes 6 and 7 have been truncated to 5" (127mm) to reduce print time and filament usage.
All sizes were made based on information for Morse Taper shank sizes from Machinery's Handbook.
