Summary: The function of this 3d Print is to be a personalized bookmark with the dimensions being 6.5cm in length and 3cm in width it is the perfect sized bookmark that you will need. The “mouth” of the ghost is what keeps the page that you will pick up on later when you decide to read your beloved book again. Differentiate which is yours by embedding your initials on it if you please. While working on this project I worked with a partner and her printables page is here to show her work on it as well (insert link)
How I Designed This: As the first project assigned in the intro to engineering class I was assigned a partner in order to make a 1-of-1 Bookmark Ghost. Firstly my partner and I looked at the base model of the ghost and started measuring the length and width to see the dimensions of the figure. Then we started to sketch a model in a two times scale so that there would be room to properly dimension the object.
After this was done we made an assembly list to make sure that the process of working on this figure in solidworks would go somewhat smoothly.
When starting to put all of this into solidworks we started off by making a construction box to properly center the figure into the software. When putting all of this into solid works we had to change some features of our ghost in order to make all of the proportions correct into solidworks, and to make sure that it accurately looked like the original blue figure.
One of the first changes that we made was to the eyes, because the shapes wouldn’t become fully defined at first, and it didn't look aesthetically accurate to the original.we changed the adjustments to a radius of 0.60cm of inside the eyes and and changed the construction line to 0.5cm away from the border line. This made it so the eyes were more accurately presented to the original model when we placed it next to the original while we were cathing small differences.
The next and final change that we made from the original sketch was to the mouth. This change mad the mouth have a slightly wider smile with the change being a +0.05cm difference. This change was made to be more aesthetically pleasing to look at rather than being a functionality change.
In this image, the smile of the mouth had a smile width of 0.2cm, and then it was changed to 0.25cm in the later rounds of Solidworks designing.
Assembly Instructions:
- Make a constraint box, centered on the origin
- Adjust the dimensions of the constraint box to be 6.5 cm in length and 3 cm in width.
- Make another construction box that is .3 cm down in length using a construction line
- Using the 3-point circle tool make the four half circles that are .75cm across inside of the .3cm construction box
- Next, while using the line tool make a construction line that is .5cm from the bottom of the construction box
- Using the line tool to make the three triangles that are 1 cm across and .5cm high with the midpoint of the triangles being .5cm inside of the .5cm construction box
- From the bottom of the middle triangle make a point that is .3 cm above the .5cm construction box
- Using the line tool make the construction line that is .9 cm left of the point we created, after that make another construction line that is .9cm vertical from the previous construction line on both sides.
- Then, make the line connect both of the construction lines that form the outside two lines of the triangle.
- Now, make a line that is 2.3cm vertical from the outside line endpoints.
- Make a construction line that is .2cm horizontal from the endpoint of the 2.3cm line.
- Using the 3-point circle tool make a half circle that has a radius of 1cm.
- From the right of the semi-circle, come down 2.2 cm using the line tool.
- Draw a construction line from the tip of the mouth, up to 0.3 cm
- Now connect the 2.2 cm line with the point just created to finish half of the mouth.
- Now mirror step 15 to finish the mouth of the ghost
- From the top of the ghost come down 1.5 cm and move 0.5 cm inward to make a circle with a 1cm diameter using the circle tool.
- Now mirror step 16 to finish the set of eyes for the ghost.
