The LED is powered by a CR2032 battery within the tree. The tree's 0.4 mm back is printed with the tree's outline. The tree's diffused front is press-fit onto the tree's outline using tabs that seem to hold reasonably well.
A disc is press-fit on top of the battery and wires to retain them within the circular cavity.
Buy the LED with the pre-wired resistor for a 3-volt supply. The LEDs are available in a variety of colors, flashing, and steady-on. I have a steady white LED on my desk that has been lit for over a month. It's getting a little weaker now.
The LED wires are insulated to within ~½" of each end. To increase the non-insulated length on each wire, remove the insulation by sand-papering.
