Due to last clear ice, I was not happy to strew with a shovel from a bucket. So I have designed this salt shaker.

To avoid contact to salt and to ensure an easy handling by strewing salt, I have designed this salt shaker. If you remove the perforated disc, you have a funnel to fill the salt into the can.

Print instruction

The salt shaker is printed with ASA and don't need supports. Other materials like e.g. PETG will be also fine.

My printer setup was a nozzle ⌀0,6mm and a layer height 0,4mm to reduce printing time. I guess, it will also work with a nozzle 0,4mm and a different layer height. In case of clearance between funnel and perforated disc is to high due to smaller layer height, scale the perforated disc in Prusa slicer to adjust the clearence between the parts.

Instruction manuel

  1. Find an empty can which have a thread with an outer diameter of about 40mm and a pitch of 4mm.  Usually cans with  antifreeze mixture for washer systems do have such a thread.
  2. Screw the funnel to the can
  3. Fill in the salt through the funnel
  4. Screw the perforated disc to the funnel
  5. Try if enough salt comes through the bores. In case of the amount of salt should be increased, print a perforated disc with larger bores (7mm [recommended], 8mm and 9mm are available as .stl) or increase the size of the bores with e.g. a countersink.
  6. Wait for the next clear ice to perform the test of your new salt shaker under real conditions.
