Makes "docking" your MacBook Pro Retina quick and easy. I converted this using onshape.com to a full parametric model with variables so you can easily resize the Thunderbolt and USB cables.

-->Use customizer to get the newest/best design customized for your cables<--

Now in SCAD

I've added the SCAD file and enabled customizer here for those who don't want to mess around with OnShape.

You can customize it here using onshape.com or use the Customizer app on Thingiverse.

Print Settings

Printer:

Wanhao Duplicator i3/Monoprice Maker Select

Resolution:

.2mm

Infill:

20%

Notes:

Printed in Monoprice Blue ABS at 215C with a 80C bed temp. The bed is glass with aqua net hairspray. I added a 6 outline, 1 layer brim at 0mm offset, otherwise your connector will curl up at the edges and smile at you. You can add the helper discs instead if you use the OpenSCAD version.

How I Designed This

OpenSCAD Design

Converting to OpenSCAD

  1. Copied major dimensions to variables in OpenSCAD
  2. Read tutorials and OpenSCAD cheatsheet
  3. Learn how to place things without using the mouse
  4. Recall high school geometry (I swore I would never use this!)
  5. Read the customizer documentation at http://customizer.makerbot.com/docs for how to present openscad variables nicely
  6. Comment, comment, comment. Code reuse is high in SCAD, make sure you know what it does and how

Onshape design is fantastic

  1. Opened biludavis model in 123d design
  2. Convert Mesh to Solid
  3. Export to Step
  4. Import Step into onshape.com
  5. Create sketch
  6. Project dimensions onto sketch
  7. Realize projected shapes are a mess
  8. Create a new onshape.com design
  9. Recreate the sketch using the dimensions from the imported step file (side by side docs)
  10. Use variables
  11. Profit (well, not really, it's free to you after all)
