Whenever you purchase new networking gear involving fibres, these often come with little silicone dust plugs to protect not only fibre cables but expensive modules. We all know that loosing these is inevitable, so why not print replacements and find another way to justify your 3D Printer?

These are simple plugs that fit snuggly into a variety of fibre optic cables and receptacles including:

  • LC plugs
  • LC sockets (eg. in SFP modules)
  • SC plug
  • SC sockets (eg. in CISCO x2 modules, FOBOTs)

These are designed to be printed from TPU, or a similar material. These should be a snug fit. These are designed to grip the plastic housing of the connector rather than the fibre itself, to help prevent damage.

Due to the small scale and tightness of fit, you may need to experiment with scaling of the module. I found my TPU had a significant shrinkage which caused issues.
