Few years back I bought wooden snake box as a gift to my relative.

Few days back I decided to recreate it by memory as a 3D printed model.

It will require some efforts to assemble and adjust, but it is a very nice toy to trick the curious people, especially on Halloween :)

Warning: do not trick very sensitive people and people with heart diseases!!!!

Filament: Creozone PLA Post-Printing =============

Here are some steps to assemble it (see corresponding numbers on photos)

Print all parts and check whether lid fits the box top rail. It must slide easily.

Once all parts are printed and ready, you can start the assembly:

  1. Parts you need:

-3D printed: box, lid, pin, snake

-thread or thin rope about 10 cm (to tie snake to the lid),

-toothpick or paperclip (to use as rotational axis),

-some filament leftovers (to make eyes and tongue),

-some glue for plastic,

  1. make eyes and tongue and glue them to the snake. I used red for tongue and yellow for eyes. Make tong short: 3-4 mm, otherwise it may not be enough space to move snake back inside the box.

  2. Put the pin inside the hole in the lid and put thread through the hole in the pin

  3. Pull the pin back while holding a thread to make lid possible to slide in the box

  4. Slide the lid while holding the thread inside the box. Do it very carefully to avoid breaking the box rail

  5. Pull both ends of thread out of the box and press the pin to put it in its final position in the lid

  6. Put the thread into center hole in the snake (make sure its face oriented to the lid side).

The hardest part is to align another hole in snake with the hole in a box and put the axis inside (I used a part of big paperclip as an axis). If it isn't fixed tight in a box hole, fix it with some glue, but be careful snake mustn't be glued to the axis.

  1. Rotate snake outside the box as much as possible and then make a double knot on the rope at one of the sides.

Make sure that box is closing and opening and snake is moving freely with the lid movement. Snake must go back in box by its own weight.

If everything is working fine then carefully cut free ends near the knot.

Everything is done! Enjoy!
