Did you spend ~$20 on a novelty keychain “tool”? Were you also slightly disappointed by the “jigglyness" of the MagSwitch 60 keychain knob? Did you also have the notion that you're somehow smarter than the people who made non-electrical switchable magnets a commercial success and decide to fix their problematically loose and sloppy bushing?

Well I beat you to it.

This is a two piece bushing designed to replace the push-in style slant cut bushing that comes installed in the MagSwitch 60 Keychain. I had the keychain for about a week and once the novelty had worn off I was slightly off-put by the amount of play that the knob had. This two piece bushing removes 90% of the play available in the knob while still allowing one handed use of the trinket.

Instructions (in case you need them):

  1. Disassemble the Magswitch 60.
  2.  Remove the slant cut bushing. Give it a good dismissive side-eye glance before irreverently tossing it into the bin.
  3. Slide Inner_bushing1 onto the threaded toggle stem. You may use the knob to fully seat it if the tolerances are a bit tight. Alternatively you can likely scale the model up by a few % if need be.
  4. Slide the stem back through the top housing. Slide Outer_Bushing1 over the exposed portion of Inner_Bushing1.
  5. Screw the knob back on. You can do some light filing on the upper part of Outer_Bushing 1 if the knob is too hard to turn.
  6. Reassemble the Magswitch 60 and enjoy your more solid feeling novelty keychain “tool”.

I hope this model brings some small amount of relief to the likely dozens of people that found themselves in the same mildly disappointing predicament I found myself in. I am sure there are a host of design, Safety/OSHA, cost, and ease of assembly reasons that the slant cut style bushing is used in the Magswitch 60. But since I never intend to use it for any real “working” style purpose, I am 100% happy to have replaced it with what I consider to be a superior solution to a mostly non-existent problem.
