MODEL FEATURES:
In my cat-and-teen-filled house, open catchall trays are a recipe for heartbreak. I designed a lided catchall bowl with:
- a 4-compartment top tray, with a middle section that holds glasses and has 4 coin-sorting holes that double as finger holds to move the tray. The dividers are parabolic and hollow to reduce filament use and weight, make the interior lines more fluid, and create a curve where the divider meets the bottom to make item removal easier.
- the top lid has an outer lip that nests neatly onto the inner lip of the bowl bottom and has toruses on the inside of the finger holds to reduce sharp edges.
- removable bottom dividers
- the top of the design is flat to leave room for your phone.
NOTES:
One design difference between the model photos and the .stl files is that I could not fit my readers into the tray because of the curvature of the outside walls, so the model files were updated to include a cutout to make the center compartment more accessible.
I've included files for an undivided bottom insert and top insert for customization, but I resized the finished model (top, bottom, divided top tray, and bottom dividers) after customizing the top insert, so if you want to customize the plain inserts you'll want to stack/assemble the model in a CAD program to make sure the inserts are sized correctly.
I also created prototypes of latching covers for the coin holes, but they'll need some tolerance added to fit flush with the tray, and the attachment points for the latches were too small to print properly. I've included them anyway so you can build off of the idea if you want to.
SPECIFICATIONS:
Bowl outside diameter: 6.25"
Bowl outside height: 3"
Catchall was printed on my Anycubic Vyper using clear PETG for the outside top and bottom and CookieCAD white and red for the interior removable dividers and top tray. The color change of the top tray was due to running out of white filament, and not due to a design feature. No supports or bed adhesion; bed temperature 60C.
I'd love to see what you do with it!
