I watch Watch restorations as I find them fascinating. I also like all the specialty tools they use. One I've seen several times is a simple little box with two sponges used to lubricate o-rings. Now, you can definitely buy these easy peasy, but what's the fun in that?
Shopping List
- 25mm thick sponges that are at least 50mm in diameter (I used these).
- 50mm round hole punch, or scissors and a steady hand (I used this).
- Use whatever you think the right lubricant is. I used some stuff that said it was for O-rings.
Building the Tool
- Print out the halves.
- Cut out the sponges to roughly 50mm in diameter.
- Glue the sponges into their respective halves. I used hot glue.
- Apply however much lubricant you deem as being “enough”.
Using the Tool
- Insert O-ring.
- Put the two halves together and rotate back and forth a couple times.
- Extract lubed o-ring.
Printing Tips
- Slice your own file for best results.
- No supports needed.
