The whole robot is print-in-place. You can print everything in one go. If you want to give the robot some extra personality, a version where you can print the eyes seperately is also included. This gives you the possibility to choose from 4 different eye designs and printing the eyes in another color. The layerlines will also look much better, when you print the eyes separately.
To change the eyes, you can use a small nail, trhough the hole in the backside of the head.
As a special treat, the package also includes a cool looking set of skies that is snap-fitting to the robot. I may add other accesories later on.
It is an easy print, but you need perfect bed adhesion, as especially the arms have a small area that touches the bed. You may want to add supports under the arms, but that is fully optional. You can also use a brim, if the arms give you trouble. I would suggest to use lightning infill for this model, as it will spare you a lot of matrial.
Printed at 100% the robot stands about 8cm/3.1" tall The robot can easily be scaled up. I have tried a 75% (6cm/2,4" tall), that also turned out really well. At this size you will have a great little fidget toy.
The model is optimized for .4 or .6 nozzles. I have used .6 + Cura 5.2, and the results looks great.
To paint my models, I use simple stone paint markers.
When I was a kid in the 80s, I had a wonderful robot toy. As with most of my cool toys, I needed to know exactly how it worked and i wanted to see if I could make something else from it. Therefore many of my old toys are broken into pieces. One of these were my robot friend.
The Retro Robot is a tribute to that old toy. A toy from a time when everything robot was insanely cool - Not a kind of AI that may or may not rule the world.
The package includes:
- Robot (Where eyes can be added)
- Robot, fully print-in-place (With eyes)
- Ski
- Ski pole
- Eyes, circle
- Eyes, dot
- Eyes, stars
- Eyes, sleep
Print with confidence that this robot will stay friendly, and have fun!
