This is a multiple screwdriver/tool holder for 1 inch standard pegboards. I always disliked the way screwdrivers flop around in a standard screwdriver holder either because the hole for the shaft is too big for the shaft or the center or gravity of the screwdriver is either too high or not on center. I figured it wouldn't be too hard to design a spring loaded holder that conforms closely to the screwdriver shaft when inserted and also allows for tool heads that are bigger than the tool shaft to pass thru. So, this is what I came up with.
My design has four main components :
- a pegboard support rack to which up to a maximum of 7 individual holders and 6 spacers can be attached
- a holder component that slides unto the support rack (each can hold one tool)
- a conforming insert that (optionally) goes in each holder
- a spacer component that slides between the individual holders
The support rack attaches to the pegboard and has a cylindrical shaft on in which the individual holders can be slid. Each holder can be fitted with a conforming insert (or not). If not, the holder will only accommodate larger handle tools or screwdrivers (between 1"/25mm and 1 ¼"/33 mm). With the insert in place, the holder will basically accommodate anything smaller. The insert works fine with small shafts up to 5/16" or 8mm. I haven't tried it with anything bigger (be mindful that inserting something too big might damage or break the insert. It can also make inserting/pulling out the tool of the holder difficult). It also works well with pencils and narrow pens.
The spacers don't take any additional space on the holder but each add one hole between 2 holders able to fit a small tool or screwdriver (the support rack also has holes for the same purpose).
The design is relatively solid but not intended to support anything heavy so also be mindful of that. I have not designed anything to lock the holders in place on the support: I figured that a drop of hot glue at each end of the support would do the trick without being permanent, if need be. A permanent solution would be to glue the holders on the support.
As for printing, I used a 0.4 mm nozzle with AMAZ3D matte grey PLA, layer height 0.2mm, line width 0.3mm, infill 25%. The support rack and the holder do require a little bit of support, while the inserts and the spacers can be printed without any. The fit between the holders and the inserts is very tight (on purpose) so that the inserts don't come out of the holder when the tool is pulled out. If you experience difficulties fitting the two together, a little bit of sanding may be required.
*** March 9, 2023 : ADDED HEX bit insert holder***
I added a hex bit holder insert that can hold up to twelve (12) hex bits. The bit holder fits inside the screwdriver holder socket. There are two versions of it: one is loose inside the socket and the other one has tabs allowing it to snap into position.
They can both be printed without support:
- the loose one with the hex bit holes facing up
- the other one with the tabs facing up.
